It’s been a few months since our shades were installed in Carly’s home, so naturally we were curious how her family is enjoying them. We recently sat down with Carly to get the inside scoop.

As a first-time homeowner, what are some of the smart investments you made to your home?

Since this was our first real home together, my husband and I wanted to make sure that we really understood the space and how it worked for us before making any big personal customizations. I'm so glad we waited because it gave us time to figure out exactly what we wanted and needed.

We're in the process of updating a bathroom, which we hope will add value to our home (in addition to just having more enjoyment). We recently did a landscaping overhaul to improve the curb appeal of the home. And we installed custom window treatments with smart automation in two key spaces we use most to add convenience for our busy family and guests.

Tell us about your experience in working with your local Hunter Douglas dealer. What did you love most about the process?

I'm a perfectionist who can struggle with decision paralysis if I don't know exactly what to do. I loved that my local Hunter Douglas dealer came into our home so he could see the space and guide us on the right choice of shade, as well as décor style. He was able to see our home in person and get to know us and our own personal needs. (A major plus for me was that he measured all the windows himself so I knew we were getting the perfect fit!)

What advice would you give to your friends and family who are thinking about investing in custom window treatments?

Do it!!!! I waited so long because I just didn't know what direction to go in. Working with our local Hunter Douglas dealer took the guesswork and intimidation out of it. We are so happy that we were able to get the perfect shade for our home—it completes the rooms!

Now that you have new custom shades in your home, how do you feel when you spend time in the rooms?

Honestly, I love them! The shades have transformed two of our most used rooms and really gave them the finishing touch they needed.

Our guest room serves two purposes: as a space for guests and as a home office for myself. The shades give me soft lighting, which helps me view my computer screen easier. When guests visit, I love that they are able to truly relax in our home using the blackout liner. And with PowerView Automation, they can lift or lower the shades with the touch of a button.

As for our family room—where we spend the majority of the time—having the shades there for privacy and room dimming is key, especially at night.

When it comes to enjoying PowerView Automation on a day-to-day basis, which moments do you value the most?

Being able to automatically schedule our shades makes me feel like we're living in the future. And with the Pebble Remote, we are able to further customize the lighting and privacy in our home, no matter what we're doing from hosting friends to unwinding after a long day.
